We are going to be announcing a Tacky Tyer of the Month starting with July. This month we are proud to announce the first Tacky Tyer of the Month is Grant Bench. We’ve known Grant for a long time now and is by far one of the best tyers we know. His attention to detail is crazy. Here’s a little bit about Grant.
Bio: Grant resides in Provo, Utah w/his wife, Holly, son, G2, and a new baby girl on the way. He has guided Utah for almost a dozen years now and loves to learn both new and old techniques and styles in fly tying and fishing.
Here are some questions we asked Grant.
Q:How long have you been fly tying?
A: 21 yrs
Q: What was the first fly you tied?
A: San Juan Worm- I had lost several dozen flies the day before on a fishing trip w/my Uncle. Before his boxes were bankrupted, he introduced me to the art. Thank you, Uncle Dave!
Q: What’s the hardest fly for you to tie?
A: Hardest? Traditionally tied Green Highlander
Q: Favorite state to fish?
A: Fav state to fish is the one I reside in-Utah
Q: Favorite material to tie with? New or old
A: Fav material to tie with- Any size, color, or shape, if it’s a Whiting feather, it’s my favorite.
